Candy Covered Marshmallows

June 19, 2012

It’s just about time for our annual pilgrimage to one of our favorite places, Sesame Place!  Before that, we will be making the girls’ first trip to NYC to American Girl.  I made these treats to put us in the spirit – candy coated star shaped marshmallows!

ridiculously easy and soooo so cute!

aaaand tasty, too!  i love the way these looked wrapped up singley.  i think next time someone does something nice for me, i will make these treats as a thank you!

but this batch will stay here with us. =D

Rice Noodle Easter Nests

March 28, 2012

Sticky, gooey, tasty, mess.  yum!

super easy and makes little girls happy!

we decided that since one batch makes about 18 nests and mom reeeeally doesn’t need 18 of these nests sitting in the kitchen all day that we’d package them for the girls’ teachers at school.

and the remainders we packed for hunny to bring to his team at work.  happy spring!

inside out smores

July 12, 2011

you know those giant masrmallows they have at the grocery store?  not just large, but BIG HONKIN marshmallows?  if you like toasted marshmallows, get some.  there’s so much surface area for toasty goodness.

if you’re so inclined, you can make inside-out smores.

with a  sharp knife, cut a slit almost all the way through the center.  i crammed in teddy grahams and mini chips cuz that’s what i had.  next time i might do graham cracker sticks dipped in nutella.  yep, that’ what i’m going to do!

get all the ingredients way in there.  don’t be stingey.

i cooked mine on the BROIL setting on my toaster oven.  when the top started to brown, i poked then on their side so i could toast them a little more… the toast part is my favorite.  only took a minute or 2.

how cute would these be, served at a picnic?  you could make a whole cookie sheet full all at once…  maybe served in cupcake papers?

that guy was DELISH!

one word though: they are an ENORMOUS sticky mess to eat.  serve to small children only if you have a hose close at hand.  or if you want to lick your face, i won’t judge.

Easter marshmallows

April 17, 2011

I admit it,  I like Martha.  I get her magazine.  Let’s still be friends.  Look, I made homemade marshmallow peep-ie things:

(I used the recipe in the Easter Martha Magazine.)

I broke out the mixer (finally) for its maiden voyage:

and it was awesome.  i want to marry it.  or find more things to mix in it.  same difference.

even the dirty mixing whisk in the sink made me smile.

the recipe was wicked easy, it was not terribly messy, and now i’ve got a cute treat to share.  Just when it was done mixing, Babycakes and I had a sample – tasted *just* *like* fluff.  YUM!  one thing i’ll do differently next time is use a brighter color and finer grit sanding sugar.

i used about 2/3 of this container, which i know is a lot.  and the texture is not as smooth as i’d thought it would be because of the outter coating.  it’s pretty grainy.  next time, maybe bright green or yellow might be fun.  dig that glass container.  i just love it!

tonight i’ll try to create some sort of clever way to package these and get them to some of our friendies as a nice Easter surprise!

cupcake shooters

April 14, 2011

so i saw these containers and had to have them:

and the ever-lovely Peg tipped me off to this blog post, and i haven’t slept since because i’ve been pondering all the possibilities.  my first trial was pretty much a copy from the blog, i just wanted to test out my materials and see if i could recreate them.  the potential for mess is great.

me and frosting and a small container?  it’s a recipe for disaster….  but i did ok i suppose.

I made some rainbow sugar cookies thinking i’d stack them in the holders with maybe some frosting or whipped cream, but i’m going to have to find some other recipes or cookie type cuz mah cookies, they are too poofy.  but pretty:

maybe if i crammed the raw dough down in the container that would work…  mmmm, botulism…  guess i’ll have another sleepless night or two.

if you’re interested in a little set of your own EMPTY push pop containers, click here.  i’ve got a few (or more than a few) to spare. =)

primary cakeballs

April 7, 2011

people bring me lots of ideas.  people say “oh! i saw this and thought of you! you have to make this!” so i have a MILLION ideas back-logged in my head. (sometimes i wonder why THEY don’t make the things themselves… maybe they like to see me flail, i don’t know.)  Karyn, a sweet customer at the scrapbook store had an idea for me the other night.  it involved sliced mini marshmallows, colored sugar and a blob of melted choclate.

easy peasy.  i started making them mono chromatic and they were lovely…

then i got a little more adventurous and mixing up the petals on the flowers:

i liked them that way, best.  they reminded me of this book we used to get at the library all the time…

we loved that book, i should see if i can find it next time we go.  anyway, don’t they kinda remind you of a child’s crayon drawing?

and since they are meant as cakeball toppers for the preschool Spaghetti Dinner, they’re PERFECT!

might have to taste test one, first.

Santa Hats and Mix

December 23, 2010

(also known as “ohsure, i’ve got PLENTY of time for these shenanigans, the day before christmas eve”)

suuuuure, lemme drop my kiddo off for a short day of kindergarten and then go get supplies before i have to go back and get her.  because i’ve got NOTHING else going on.

so the hats – they are bugles dipped in red chocolate, white nonpareils with a marshmallow poked on the point.  flippin ADORABLE.

and quite tasty.

then in another bowl i mixed pretzels, corn chex, peanuts, craisins, and more bugles… just whatever was kicking around.  i melted some white chocolate and put it in the bowl and stirred it around.  after it dried on a cookie sheet, i broke up the mix and added the santa hats and holiday m&ms.  adorable and delicious.

aww, yeah.

i put a nice portion in some baggies and we’ll share them with some friendies tomorrow… if it lasts that long!

i got the info and the hairbrained idea right here last night, and i couldn’t think of anything else til i actually made them.  what an awesome and super cute idea!
