Edible Easter Centerpiece

March 26, 2012

Easter is sometimes my favorite holiday.  I don’t know if it’s the pretty colors or the start of spring, but if you ask me at this time of year what my favorite holiday is, it’ll be Easter.  Today I made a table centerpiece:

and it’s completely edible! weee!

i started with making the candy cups.  they are shaped around tiny little water balloons.

something shady happened and one popped all on its own.  ugh, mess.

i put them on a bed of edible Easter grass.  while the package says it’s edible, it’s kinda gross tasting.  the main ingredient is potato starch, they’re kinda like weird fruit flavored packing peanuts/rice cakes.  but edible.

i added plain m&ms, pretzel m&ms and cadbury mini eggs to the cups, made some candy and pretzel bunny faces and hineys, and added some peeps.  i have a love affair with peeps.  bunnies are my favorite, and i always loved the white ones but i haven’t been able to find them for years.  last month i actually emailed Just Born to see what the deal was, and *weepy tears* they don’t make them any more because they weren’t popular.  thanks a LOT, people.  ANYWAY,

i made a little bunny mix with popcorn, corn chex, pretzels, mini marshmallows, sprinkles, m&ms and leftover green chocolate candy.  This won’t make it to Easter, it’s too yummy we’ll have to make more!

Lucky Charms….

March 16, 2012

I picked all the marshmallows out of the cereal.  The girls begged for it this a.m. and didn’t even notice that there were no marshmallows in it.  Hilarious, and true.  But I wonder if they’re even gonna care that I made them tiny treat jars.

They do love the personalized spoons we made for big girl’s birthday… and they were sitting on the counter at picture time. =D

i am still sticking to the no-carbs thing (it’s like i don’t even know who i am!), cuz i did not even nibble *1* marshmallow.  crazy!! i know!!

They better enjoy them in the morning, or mama’s gonna have marshmallow breath.  I can only be so good…

Valentine Crafts

February 9, 2012

I just wrote a post on my work’s blog that’ll be published this weekend about keeping crafting simple.  I wish I could take my own advice, cuz today I have lost my mind.  I was looking for ideas for the girls to make their class Valentine’s and found all kinds of other things, too!  Like using chalkboard paint on $1 boxes of chocolate from the drug store:

and wrapping tootsie roll banks with paper to make them a little more festive:

ridiculous how easy they are to make, and adorable, too!

I think Big Girl might like to make bookmarks for her friends as Valentine’s, first grade is all about reading.  I made a couple of prototypes that I’ll give to my girls as Valentine’s.  The class ones will be made with smaller clips.

I think my girls are going to love ALL the treats I’ve made today!

I put a few sets of magnets in my etsy shop  too that are a little on the Valentine-y side but work for anyone who likes pink, or hearts, or polka dots, or strawberries or cherries or lots of other things:

Lots of treats for everyone!

groundhog day treats

February 2, 2012

what up, yo?  i’m a groundhog made out of a mini snickers bar.

adorable, yet weird.  and in need of some othodontia.

yes, i dress little candy bars and make them talk to themselves.  what else would i do while the cupcakes are cooling, look for my shadow?

it was 60+ degrees on february 1 in connecticut.  can we say Spring Fever???  That guy up there, his snow is dirty.  That’s pretty much how it looks up here when we have snow.

see?  there’s some snow…. kinda.  my little push pop groundhogs don’t have snow in their holes, cuz there’s not really any snow here.  i just know when he peeps out his hole, he better see spring.

i still have a BUNCH of the pushpop containers that are available for sale, check em out here:  click me!

peppermints revisited

December 22, 2011

so last year there was a small debacle regarding peppermint candies.  aaaand i had about 450 left.  so i tried these cute little coaster/trivet/thingies i saw somewhere, probably on pinterest.

they didn’t turn out the way i hoped (peppermint candies, i am OVER you!), but i used another 50 candies or so, hooray!  that top one is probably the best, i used a pizza cutter to make the edges sharp and so it’d fit the little tray i wanted to put it on.

the edges tended to get a little runny, but eh, cute enough.  oh, and hey!  dig my cupcakes!  i made those for our viewing party for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and they were pretty darn cute if i say so myself.

and i guess while i’m doing the dump of holiday-time desserts i have made, lookit these little peppermint icecream whoopie pies!  i made the icecream, i made the whoopies, i made the pies!

i did NOT use peppermint hard candies, i’m still looking for ways to use up about 400 of those…

end of the summer crafty goodness

August 29, 2011

Did i tell you i made a project that will be on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition?  I don’t think i’ve said anything here yet.  They called on a Friday night and what we made was out the door Monday evening.  My husband (Kingvanna) and Christy and I slaved for about a total of 50 hours, and the end result is awesome.  I am not biased, either.  It’s all VERY exciting, I can’t wait to tell you more (like when to watch!)  More details when they are available!  (I have to get the proper oks from the show people.)  I just wanted to tell you “YAY!” and “squeeeee!”

With that in mind, i’ve been feverishly being crafty over here.  I’ve made a TON of new calendars:

bingo cards and flowers

beatrix potter peter rabbit bunnies

and a whole slew of new Christmas Countdown Calendars:

this mistletoe one is my absolute favorite.

i’ve been working out the details on these a while, and i think i’ve finally got it – Countdown Clipboards, for Halloween, Christmas, and birthdays!

count em all down!

i also have 2 new (and each is one of a kind!) spool Christmas Countdown/Advent Calendars

Advent Calendar - Wooden Spool Thread Holder - Country Holiday Countdown

Advent Calendar - Wooden Spool Thread Holder - Red and Green Holiday Countdown

lots of holiday goodness, for sure!

(i’d love to leave links for these goodies, but i am having some tense times with wordpress right now.  please go to http://queenvannacreations.etsy.com to see it ALL!  and also, http://justscrappinhappy.blogspot.com to see what Christy is up to!)

Santa Hats and Mix

December 23, 2010

(also known as “ohsure, i’ve got PLENTY of time for these shenanigans, the day before christmas eve”)

suuuuure, lemme drop my kiddo off for a short day of kindergarten and then go get supplies before i have to go back and get her.  because i’ve got NOTHING else going on.

so the hats – they are bugles dipped in red chocolate, white nonpareils with a marshmallow poked on the point.  flippin ADORABLE.

and quite tasty.

then in another bowl i mixed pretzels, corn chex, peanuts, craisins, and more bugles… just whatever was kicking around.  i melted some white chocolate and put it in the bowl and stirred it around.  after it dried on a cookie sheet, i broke up the mix and added the santa hats and holiday m&ms.  adorable and delicious.

aww, yeah.

i put a nice portion in some baggies and we’ll share them with some friendies tomorrow… if it lasts that long!

i got the info and the hairbrained idea right here last night, and i couldn’t think of anything else til i actually made them.  what an awesome and super cute idea!
